Southern New Hampshire University

The Master of Business Administration has a focus on Public Administration and can be completed in just 15 months. Students will take two courses in 10-week terms in a self-paced format. Working professionals can extend their class plan by cutting down to one course in a term if needed. Other benefits taking the program under SHSU are enrolling in a full online program with no on-campus requirements, having some of the cheapest tuition costs by not raising rates since 2012, and having a long established history with an MBA program.

It is recommended that foundational business classes have been taken in prior coursework, and a requirement is students have obtained a Bachelor's degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA. 36 credit hours are needed to complete the curriculum. Courses required in the Public Administration concentration are Strategic Management in Public Service and Intergovernmental Relations, with an additional course in either Foundations of Public Administration or Foundations of Public Policy. Typical job roles when obtaining this degree are grant writers, legislative analysts, health services manager, and policy analyst.

University of New Hampshire

The Carsey School of Public Policy offers a full Master of Public Administration that provides subjects in program evaluation, planning, budgeting, and policy analysis to prepare for leadership roles in the public and nonprofit sectors. The program can be completed in 16-21 months with weekly evening classes at the Manchester campus. There are additional electives offered at the Durham campus and online. Typical job positions held for those completing this degree are city or county managers, law enforcement, and research analysts.

Part-time students can have up to a 36-month plan to complete their MPA degree, offering just one or two courses in each term while still working full-time professionally. The 36-credit hour program requires seven core courses and five electives. Example core courses include foundational topics, Introduction to Statistical Analysis, Administrative Law, Art of Negotiation, and Public Management Techniques. There is a capstone project that culminates the program.

Undergraduates have the opportunity to accelerate their Master’s degree by taking up to four courses during their senior year that will also count as credits toward the MPA. By doing this, a student can graduate with just an additional year of studies. It is recommended that students have some experience with government and political science in an academic or professional manner.

Prospective students can be administered in the fall, spring, and summer terms. Submission requirements include transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a personal statement that answers essay questions over the reasons for pursuing a career in this field and professional experiences, and an option resume. GRE scores are not required, but they can be submitted for consideration.
